5 Easy Ways to Optimize Your Website with Google Search Console

A search engine optimization (SEO) consultant can give you the edge you need to rank at the top of Google’s search results, but if you’re on a budget or don’t know where to begin, here are five quick and easy ways to optimize your website without breaking the bank or hiring an outside consultant.

SEO is the art of optimizing a website to rank higher in search engine results.

The Google Search Console is a tool from Google that provides webmasters with information on Google's indexing and crawling of their site as well as data about the site's performance.

This blog post is going to go through all of the steps necessary for setting up an account on the Google Search Console, configuring your website, and optimizing your SEO strategy.

The search console is a web-based service that provides information about your website and how it appears in Google Search results.

1) Add your website to Google Webmaster Tools

In order for Google to crawl your site and analyze it, you need to let them know about it. By adding your site to its Webmaster Tools, you’re providing a detailed list of all the pages on your website. It’s essentially a map for Google so that they can see where each page lives and how important it is for search results. Once you add your site in GWT, fill out as much information as possible from its dashboard.

2) Enable Rich Snippets

Google’s rich snippets feature allows you to stand out in search results with content snippets that are displayed directly below your URL (in addition to your title and description). This is a quick way to entice searchers—and snagging those coveted clicks can translate into big time traffic. To get started, log into your Google search console and add structured data markup on each page of your site. This provides important information about your site’s content and will enable rich snippets in search results.

3) Get familiar with Canonical Tags

Canonical tags allow you to notify search engines that there are multiple URLs for a page. You can do so by using Canonical Tags, which specifies which of these pages is canonical and has higher value. In many cases, webmasters will use robots.txt files or disallow specific URLs in their .htaccess file, but these methods are error-prone.

4) Set up Keywords in sitemap.xml

Making sure your website is set up correctly on search engines helps show that you’re an active website, which will encourage more people to visit. To optimize your site’s content and make it easily accessible to crawlers, go into your webmaster tools account (or create one!) and set up keywords in sitemap.xml files.

5) Make sure your site loads fast

If your site isn’t loading fast, it doesn’t matter how many keywords you have. Slow-loading pages have a higher bounce rate and make visitors less likely to buy anything. If you can’t optimize your site, consider investing in a service like Cloudflare, which speeds up your website by caching content around the world.
